Clovis, Calif – The Clovis FFA Chapter has achieved a remarkable milestone, securing a spot among the top five teams nationally in veterinary science. This accomplishment took place at the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The team’s success highlights the dedication and skill of its members, setting a high standard for future competitors.
Outstanding Performance at the National Convention
The Clovis FFA Veterinary Science team ranked fourth out of 46 teams nationwide, demonstrating exceptional knowledge and practical skills. Their journey began with winning the State Championship this past spring, earning them the opportunity to represent California on the national stage.

This multifaceted competition tested both individual and team abilities, requiring participants to work collaboratively while also showcasing their personal expertise.
Team Members and Their Dedication
The team comprises Emma Smalley from Clovis North, Navraj Sanhan and Leanne Chavez from Clovis East, and Sofia Vizcarra from Clovis High. Despite graduating in June, Sanhan, Chavez, and Vizcarra returned to compete, underscoring their commitment to the sport and their peers.
Jennifer Knight, the FFA Advisor and team coach, emphasized the real-world applications of the scenarios presented. “The scenarios are examples of real-world cases that they would handle in today’s veterinary practice,” Knight stated.
How Did They Prepare for the Competition?
Preparation was intense and comprehensive, involving both individual and group efforts. The team members engaged in rigorous training to hone their clinical skills and veterinary knowledge.
