WSU Tech Expands and Upgrades Its Automotive Facility

WSU Tech, a technical college in Wichita, Kansas, is undergoing a renovation project for its automotive facility, with the aim of attracting more students and enhancing their learning experience. The project, which is expected to be completed by the start of the next academic year, will add more lab space and modern equipment for the automotive programs.

The automotive facility at WSU Tech houses several programs, such as automotive technology, collision repair, diesel technology, and alternative fuels. These programs offer students the opportunity to learn the skills and knowledge needed to pursue a career in the automotive industry, which is facing a shortage of qualified technicians.

The demand for automotive education has been increasing in recent years, as the industry evolves and requires more advanced and specialized skills. According to WSU Tech, the enrollment in its automotive programs has grown by 25% in the last five years, and the college expects to see a further growth of 15% in the next five years.

A State-of-the-Art Facility for Students and Instructors

The renovation project, which is funded by the state of Kansas with a $1.5 million grant, will transform the existing automotive facility into a state-of-the-art learning environment. The project will add around 10,000 square feet of lab space, which will allow the instructors to teach more students and offer more hands-on training.

The project will also upgrade the equipment and technology in the facility, such as adding new lifts, diagnostic tools, and electric and hybrid vehicles. The project will also introduce a new program for alternative fuels, which will teach students how to work with electric, hybrid, and other emerging fuel systems.

A Positive Impact for the Community and the Industry

The renovation project will not only benefit the students and instructors at WSU Tech, but also the community and the industry at large. The project will create more opportunities for students to pursue a rewarding career in the automotive field, which offers competitive wages and benefits.

The project will also help the local dealerships and employers, who are looking for skilled and trained technicians to fill their vacancies. The project will also support the environmental and economic goals of the state, by promoting the use of clean and efficient vehicles and fuels.
