What advertising here gets you
AN TV NEWS is free to read and paid for by advertising, so advertisers keep the reporting going, and we are glad to have them. What advertising here buys is attention: a global English-speaking audience that comes to the site for world, business, technology, sports, health and entertainment news, across the day and around the clock. What it does not buy, ever, is a say in the journalism. That line is the whole basis of the relationship, and everything below is built on it.
To start a conversation, write to support@antv.news with ADVERTISING at the front of the subject line. Tell us who you are, what you want to promote, and roughly the scale and timing you have in mind. Enquiries are handled on the business side, away from the desk that would cover you.
What we sell
Most of our inventory is standard display advertising, filled programmatically through advertising exchanges. That is the bulk of what you see, and it is bought and sold through the usual automated marketplaces rather than negotiated with us one advertisement at a time.
- Programmatic display. Standard banner and in-article placements filled through exchanges. Most advertisers reach us this way.
- Direct display. A campaign booked with us directly, for advertisers who want a defined placement over a defined period.
- Newsletter sponsorship. A clearly marked sponsor slot in our email, sold as a whole edition or a run.
- Sponsored content. A piece produced for an advertiser and labelled as such, described in its own section below.
We do not sell the things that quietly corrode a news site: no pop-ups that trap you, no auto-playing sound, no fake “you have won” units, no malware-laden creative, and nothing that impersonates our own journalism to earn a click.
The wall between advertising and journalism
This is the part that matters most, so we will be blunt about it. Buying advertising on AN TV NEWS buys you space next to our journalism. It does not buy you influence over it.
- Advertisers do not see stories before publication and are not told what is coming.
- Advertisers get no say in what we cover, how we cover it, or when.
- A request to pull, soften or delay a story because of an advertising relationship is refused, and the request itself may become something we report.
- When we cover a company that advertises with us, the story is written as though the advertising did not exist, and where it is relevant, the relationship is disclosed.
On programmatic inventory we frequently do not even know which advertiser bought a given impression, which makes buying influence through it impossible by design. The wider account of how we keep money away from the newsroom is on our ownership and funding page, and the sourcing rules behind the journalism are in our editorial standards.
Sponsored content, always labelled
Sometimes an advertiser wants a full piece rather than a banner. We will consider it, on strict conditions. It is clearly and unavoidably labelled as sponsored or paid content, so no reader can mistake it for our journalism. It is not written by the reporters who cover that advertiser’s sector. It does not borrow the authority of our newsroom, and it is held to the basic standards of honesty and legality that everything on the site is held to.
A sponsored piece that would need to be dishonest to work is one we decline. If the only way an advertisement lands is by tricking the reader about who is speaking, it is not an advertisement we can run.
What we refuse
Some money is not worth taking, and turning it down is cheaper than the trust it would cost. We decline, among other things:
- Political and issue advertising that hides who is paying for it, and campaign advertising during an election that is not fully and openly attributed.
- Scams, fraud, deceptive financial or investment schemes, and anything promising guaranteed returns.
- Advertising aimed at children, and creative that has no business sitting next to a news story.
- Illegal products and services, and creative that is hateful, deceptive, or designed to endanger a reader.
- Creative that impersonates AN TV NEWS or dresses an advertisement up as our editorial content.
We reserve the right to decline or remove any advertisement, from any advertiser, without owing a lengthy explanation. Appearing here is not an endorsement by us of an advertiser or its products, a point our disclaimer makes plainly.
Practical matters, and how to reach us
Programmatic advertising sets cookies and may collect data about readers, handled under the categories in our cookie policy and the practices in our privacy policy. Readers who refuse advertising cookies still see advertising, chosen by the page rather than by a profile, and no reader is ever charged or shut out for saying no.
For rates, availability and anything else, write to support@antv.news with ADVERTISING in the subject. Other ways to reach us are on our contact page. We answer genuine enquiries quickly, and we would rather tell you early that something is not a fit than waste your time and ours.
